The white establishment is now the minority. And the voters, many of them, feel that the economic system is stacked against them and they want stuff. You are going to see a tremendous Hispanic vote for President Obama. Overwhelming black vote for President Obama. And women will probably break President Obama’s way. People feel that they are entitled to things and which candidate, between the two, is going to give them things? The demographics are changing. It’s not a traditional America anymore.

Bill O’Reilly: “Obama wins because it’s not a traditional America anymore. The white establishment is the minority. People want things.”

This is my reaction to these comments except I kept saying, “What’s wrong Bill? Are you mad?”

White Flight: Atlanta and the Making of Modern Conservatism (Politics and Society in Twentieth Century America) by Kevin M. Kruse

By the late 1940s and early 1950s, working-class whites felt themselves under siege from what they saw as a black invasion of their neighborhoods and public spaces such as parks and swimming pools. Working-class whites at first turned to organized violence and intimidation, but soon realized the importance of winning the battle for public image. In Kruse’s words, “In time, they would learn to put aside the brown shirts of the [white supremacist] Columbians and the white sheets of the Klan and instead present themselves as simple homeowners and concerned citizens.” (44) On an ideological level, they moved from trying to protect the integrity of their communities (a cohesion that Kruse convincingly undermines), and instead began to emphasize their individual rights and liberties to live amongst whomever they chose. In many neighborhoods, their struggle was not enough, as the first wave of black homeowners caused a stampede of white individuals rushing to sell their homes before property values decreased.

So, I just finished this book…

Seriously, before reading this, I had a kind of respect for conservatives that can basically be summed up as, “Your interests are different than mine, and your perspective is different than mine; thus you believe A, B, and C. I don’t agree, but okay.”
But fuck that and fuck conservatives!

Conservatism and suburban America were founded on racism and are unequivocally maintained through racism!
If your current knowledge seems to suggest that conservatism suddenly appeared with Ronald Reagan (or maybe you don’t know anything about the history of conservatism in America at all), you must read this book. It will give you a more complete picture of the Civil Rights Movement and what we’re actually living through today, which is White resistance to integration (Yes.. after all this time!).
Last paragraph of the book:

Thus, at the start of the twenty-first century, the politics created by white flight are not simply still present; they are predominant. Despite its fundamental importance in contemporary political and social life, however, the roots of modern suburban conservatism remain largely obscured. On the surface, its policies appear to have little to do with the forgotten struggles over segregation. Upon closer examination, however, much of the modern suburban conservative agenda—the secessionist stance toward cities, the individualistic outlook, the fervent faith in free enterprise, and the hostility to the federal government— was, in fact, first articulated and advanced in the resistance of southern whites to desegregation. No matter how sincere conservatives may be in insisting that their politics are “color-blind”—and, to be sure, a great number of them are sincere— a close reading of the historical record shows that the politics of race and racism did inspire policies that now seem to have little to do with race. Recognizing the legacies of white flight would be a first step in reducing the steady tensions between the cities and suburbs and help bring together a nation that with every year seems ever more polarized by race, region, and class. Before that can happen, however, white Americans must stop running away from their past.

Romney: ‘I Will Replace And Supersede’ Obama’s Immigration Order

Mitt Romney finally outlined what immigration policy might look like if he is elected president in a speech before the National Association of Latino Elected Officials in Orlando Thursday.
Romney would “replace” President Obama’s new immigration policy in favor of one that staves off deportation only for those who sign up for military service, though the full details were unclear.
But Romney’s speech — though it was the most specifics he has offered yet about the fate of illegal immigrants in this country — still did not answer key questions about what exactly will happen in the opening days of a Romney presidency.

This went over like a lead balloon. Nothing like telling people their cousins have two choices: A) Get deported to a country they know nothing about because they grew up in America or B) go to Iraq to get maimed or killed.

At least Republican intentions are finally clear.
They no doubt want us dead for their benefit. They want to exploit us. They want to use us to exploit others. They want us dead.

You’d think that someone who “never had the option of parental health insurance to age 26” would see why such a policy makes sense, or that a person who used welfare and food stamps after suffering an injury and losing her job might understand better than anyone else the value of a social safety net. But, nope! Basic ideas (some might even call them “human rights”!) like “paid time off” and “health insurance” and “a living wage” are apparently the demands of an unreasonably entitled parasitic class. This is where the best of American values meet their most masochistic applications. Did you work 60-70 hours a week for nearly a decade to get a college degree after serving in this country’s military? This is America! Drive on! Do you now have two different jobs, neither of which will pay you insurance? Suck it up, whiner! Driving a shitty car and narrowly making ends meet? Stop whining and suck it up! And if any of those problems are directly attributable to reckless, self-serving behavior on the part of enormous banking conglomerates, for God’s sake don’t blame them! You are the 53 percent!
